Top Ten Tuesday - Characters Who Deserve Their Own Books

A weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Secondary Characters Who Deserve Their Own Books
Secondary Characters are usually my favorites in a book or series. The comic relief characters, the villains, the ones who we don't know their secrets.

1.) Thorne in The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Obviously I would read anything where Thorne is even featured but this guy deserves his own book. Flashbacks to what landed him in prison, perspectives of him inside prison (soap riot cough cough), space opera adventures, and general shenanigans from Thorne's perspective. I would LOVE that.

2.) Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Johanna is my absolute favorite character in this series. She has one of the greatest character introductions ever and parts of Mockingjay would be great to see from her perspective. Plus maybe it could also include some flashbacks to her games and how she got so jaded and Capital-hating!
Honorable Mention: Finnick Odair

4.) Margeary Tyrell in A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin
This is a series with thousands of characters and more P.O.V.s than I can count but you know who is just a humble secondary character and I wish wasn't, Margeary! Seriously, I want to see inside her brain and know what she is plotting! Her hair is so big because it's full of secrets and I want to know them all!
Honorable Mention to: Oberyn Martell and Littlefinger.

3.) Manon Blackbeak in Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
This contradicts a later point but I am obsessed with Manon! She is tough as her iron teeth and a cold-blooded killer with a heart of gold. Her perspectives were my favorite in Heir of Fire and I would love nothing more than to read a whole book just about her especially if Abraxas is involved!
Honorable Mention: Aedion and Nehemiah

5.) Daniel Sheridan in Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard
I would love to learn more about the Spirit Hunters on the whole. How they met up, what happened in New York, and more. Daniel would be a great MC for that story because we could also see him inventing, plus he's so dreamy and delightful.
Honorable Mention: Oliver and Jei

6.) The Marauders in The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
There are so many secondary characters in HP that deserve their own series but I'm going with the Marauders. I would love to see their time at school, how they got to be friends, what they did after school but mostly that moment when Snape finds out about Lupin. This is one of my favorite topics of HP fanfiction!
Honorable Mention: Snape, Dumbledore, and the Next Generation

7.) Zu in The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
If you've read this series then you know, Zu doesn't talk. She's had some things in her past that has made her choose to be mute. Not only would I like to know why but because she doesn't speak it'd be so interesting to see the story from her perspective. Plus she's so kind and sweet. I just love Zu.
Honorable Mention: Vida and Chubs

Main Characters Who Shouldn't Have Had to Share
You all probably know that I complain all the time about how I hate when books switch perspectives. I often find it annoying and frustrating. It's usually the case that one storyline or one narrator is more compelling than some of the others. So here are my MCs who deserve their own books

8.) Celaena Sardothian in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas
So, it definitely got better by Heir of Fire but I would have totally been okay with it if the first two books would be told entirely from Celaena's perspective. It worked brilliantly in The Assassin's Blade. I mean I love Dorian and Chaol but they did not need P.O.V. chapters especially in earlier books when they would change halfway through a chapter!

9.) Lia in The Kiss of Deception by Mary Pearson
I had some very serious frustrations with this book and one of them was fact that it kept shifting between the Princess, the Prince, and the Assassin. It made things messy and needlessly confusing. I would have loved it if the book just stuck with Lia's perspective.

10.) Iolanthe in The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas
I really hated the changing perspectives in this book. Like Throne of Glass they would change mid chapter and were jarring. Plus I think seeing things from Titus' perspective made Iolanthe less sympathetic. He would have been better as a mysterious romantic lead not a narrator. Maybe it gets better in The Perilous Sea. Haven't read it yet.

Honorable Mention in the Category to : The Raven Cycle but I can't pick a characters who should have sole ownership!

Which charcters would you give their own book to? Is there any that you would rather the book not be in multiple perspectives? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

  1. I totally agree with you about Thorne, I would read anything where he is the main attraction. I just love him.
I haven't read most of the other books on your list besides A song of Ice and Fire and Harry Potter, and I agree with you there too, especially the Marauders. A book about them would be so much fun.

  2. Thorn is a good choice, I'd love to hear more about his thieving days. It would be interesting to see if Johanna was always the way she is now. I hate Margeary! I bet she gets her own point of view soon though. (or dies) There NEEDS to be a Marauders book!

Most books I'd rather more perspectives, but I hate limited third where for random paragraphs we head hop.

  3. I think Margeary is a character that definitely shouldn't be over looked. I would also love to know what is rattling around in her head. I can not believe that I forgot about Manon! She made quite the impression on me. I would be very intrigued to learn more about her. Fantastic list!

  4. ZOMG! Thorne, Margeary, and the Marauders! That would be awesome to have their points of view! Why didn't I think of them?

  5. OOoh Thorne would be a delightful read! Hoping to get more of his and Cress's story. They can't be done after the ending of Cress.

And Daniel...sigh...what is there to say...like seriously! If I could in any way do fan fiction I would so do something about Daniel in Jennifer Armentrout's contest she has going, but I've never been good with fan fiction. Plus my own characters and I aren't getting along and I feel like writing something with another author's characters would make them hate me more! LOL!

    Here's my Tuesday Post
