Book Blog Love-a-Thon Mini Challenge #4

For our first challenge of the day we are supposed to combine our bookish hobby with a non-bookish hobby. So one of my hobbies includes cooking and baking. I love food and I love sharing food with others. So I decided to cook something inspired by a book. My original thought was pumpkin pasties from Harry Potter but I didn't have pumpkin and I HATE grocery shopping (seriously it's the 9th layer of Inferno unknown by Dante). Then I realized that the dinner I was cooking last night totally fits. So inspired by Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo I present...

Morozova's Stag Venison Stroganoff- Serves 2-3

Ingredients
3 cups egg noodles
Olive oil
1/2 a small onion, diced.
2 Venison steaks or chops, cut into cubes.
1 package mushrooms, sliced.
3 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup flour
1 cup beef broth
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions
- In medium saucepan boil 4 cups of water.

-Prepare gravy: In medium skillet melt butter on low. Add flour and mix well with whisk. To your rue add beef broth and milk. Mix well to avoid clumps. Set aside and allow to simmer on low stirring occasionally.

-Coat small skillet with olive oil. Add onion and sautee on medium. When onions begin to turn translucent add venison. When venison in browned on both sides add mushrooms and garlic. Allow to sautee until mushrooms begin to soften stirring occasionally.

-When water is boiled add noodles.

-To venison mixture add gravy and simmer on low.

-When noodles are cooked drain and return to pan. Add venison mixture to noodles and mix well.

-Eat at Winter Palace with the Darkling at your side. Plot world domination and enjoy!

So I don't usually use recipes when I cook so I just sort of just wrote this all out based on what I was doing. If you want a more traditional stroganoff recipe check out this one.

And yay for Shadow and Bone, have you seen the Ruin and Rising cover? So. Excited. I absolutely love not only each cover in this series, but how they look together. Absolutely wonderful. 1. I can't promise the Darkling. But the way I figure it, if you were going to eat Morozova's Stag he would be game to join you. I mean after the antlers are removed what else are you going to do with the body?

    1. It is super yummy. If you feel like you don't want to murder a mythical creature you can also use beef. It won't be as Grisha themed, but hey!
