Feature and Follow Friday #41

A weekly meme hosted by Alison Can Read & Parajunkee's View

How it Works:

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you visit the blogs of our illustrious hosts and leave your name on the post using using the linky tools, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

This Week's Question:

Before blogging (dark times people!) how did you find out about new books? Submitted by A GREAT read

This Week's Answer:

Before blogging I spent a lot of time in Borders, may it rest in peace, and I can't count how many books I found that way. My old roommate worked there and she would have me pick her "staff recommends" books. That was also when I was really into Literary Fiction so I would wander around their fiction section and mostly pick up books based on their covers (I judge books by them). Then I started getting into YA and they had a great YA section there. But when Borders died I would get book recommendations from Amazon. Their algorithm for recommending similar books is so much better than Goodreads! Or from friends and family. I have a few bookish friends who don't usually steer me wrong!

How about you? How did you find new books before blogging? Leave me a comment with your thoughts.

And remember this is a blog hop so take a look around and if you like what you see give me a follow and leave me a comment so I can follow back. I am indifferent to the manner in which you follow so pick your poison: GFC, Bloglovin, and/or Twitter. I'm also on YouTube now so you can check me out HERE and subscribe! I've been posting videos every Friday!

Thanks for dropping by, Happy FF and HAPPY READING!

  2. Sob! Your pic is bringing tears to my eyes...they were MY bookstore. That's where I went. I would spend an hour or two there pulling off book after book looking for something good to read. It was a tedious process, but I found many treasures that way! I had a Borders that was a mere 7 minutes or so from my house, so yeah, there were tears when they closed. Now that place is an Aldi's. :/

    Here's my Follow Friday

  4. We never had Borders in the UK but in looks good. I used to use Amazon a lot too but I like the lists they have on Goodreads and how I can see all my friend's reviews.

    I'm an existing follower.

  5. Oh my gosh Borders! I adored that store. They had some cool bookish merchandise, too. I am not with the Feature and Follow gang (I haven't quite figured out how to set it up yet). I saw you on Brittersweet's blog and wanted to drop by and say hello.
