Top Ten Tuesday - Book to Movie (and TV) Adaptations

A weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I'm really bad at watching book to movie adaptations. And honestly it's not because I need to read the book first because I don't. I'm actually one of those people who likes to see the movie first. I have done that pretty often. And even if I have read the book and want to see the movie I rarely go.But I just don't watch movies all that much. I'm more of a binge TV shows on Netflix kind of girl. So here are the ten movies and a few TV shows I haven't seen yet but want to.

1.) The Book Thief
This movie came out a few years ago but I only read this book recently because I didn't think it was my kind of read but I ended up loving it. Now I want to watch the movie of course but I'm sure it will destroy me.

2.) The Scorch Trials
I only recently saw The Maze Runner, even after reading the book before it came out. So despite watching that before this came out, I still haven't seen this one. I didn't love the direction that the series went in but this will probably a really visual movie.

3.) Insurgent
I read this book ages ago but I still haven't seen the movie. The trailer sort of confused me and makes me worried that they are going to make series changes but I'm still interested to see it and the larger world.

4.) If I Stay
I have absolutely no interest in this book. I don't do sad books. But I love a good sad movie. I know so many people love this one so I do want to watch it. And I know it's on Netflix but I just haven't been in the mood for it.

5.) The Duff
This is actually a book I want to read (I even own a copy). I have heard really good thing. I may watch the movie first though (I'm one of those people) because I love Mae Whitman and the previews looked fun.

6.) Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl
This book is set in Pittsburgh (where I live) and it was actually shot here. I've heard good things about the book and I may or may not read it but I do want to watch the movie, which looks really good. I just need to get around to watching it.

7.) Outlander
I have been interested in this series for awhile now (I seems like something I would love) but I'm intimidated by how long the books are and how many there are. I want to watch show first but I don't have Starz and I don't know of any way to watch it besides buying the DVDs.

Coming Soon

8.) Mockingjay Part 2
This comes out in like a week and a half, right? I'm totally not prepared for the ending. I'm going to sob in the movie theater (a thing I have been known to do). I'm hoping to go seat it over Thanksgiving (my brother and I have seen the last two together) and when I go I'm sure I will need to bring a whole box of tissues.

9.) Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
This comes out in February and I'm so excited. I really liked the book and I think it is going to make a really fantastic movie. The period piece plus blood and gore. That's super cinematic, amiright?

10.) The Magicians
I'm a huge fan of this series which is really polarizing within the fantasy community but I find it really creative. The trailers have looked really fantastic and I'm even okay with the changes I've heard. Now I just need to find out how to watch SyFy without cable.

There you have it. My list of movie and TV adaptations that I haven't seen yet and want to. What adaptations made your list. Have you seen any of these? What did you think? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

  2. The DUFF is really cute! The movie strays from the book quite a bit, but I loved it anyway :)

Outlander is hella intimidating. But I recently started the show and it is beyond amazing!

  6. We might as well have your whole list in common. The only movie on your list that I've already watched is If I Stay, it was pretty good, but I prefer the book.

  7. The Book Thief movie killed me. I was crying in theaters (because of course I would watch it in theater), and I unfortunately had NO TISSUES PREPARED. I have watched it a couple of times afterwards.

  10. I am surprised to watch your list. I missed all of these movies. I never heard a single movie from your list. But after reading your blog post I have decided to watch online movies based on these novels. I am so excited to watch The Magicians full movie.
