November Wrap Up and December TBR

Read in November: Science Fiction

And once again, the month consisted of highly anticipated reads and sequels. I also finally got to read a few books that I have been wanting to read for awhile. But the weirdest thing about November was that not putting pressure on myself to stick to a reading schedule let to more rereads this month. I reread 5 books and only 8 new books. But they were some really great reads. No 10 stars but a few that were really close. Seriously this month had some amazing reads.

I'm also still doing really well on my challenges. I am up to 119 books for the the year which is basically my goal of reading 120 books this year. I've also already done 15 rereads so I'm thinking maybe I can do 150 books. It's optimistic but we'll see. I'm also way ahead of the goal for the Debut Author Challenge and have set my sights on reading 24 debuts. I didn't read any debuts this month but I am still at 23 debuts for the year. ONE MORE TO GO! I'm also doing well on the Netgalley/Edelweiss Challenge having read two more books for that challenge again. I only need one more to reach my goal of 36 but failed at my new goal is to get my NG percentage to 80% which I could only maintain for like a week. Next year? And finally I picked up on the TBR Pile Challenge. I read two book for that this month and need to read two more to reach my goal of 21, which is totally doable.

To Be Read in December: No Theme/Catch up

My planned theme for November is Science Fiction. Mostly this is because the few new releases I have preordered and know I am reading are Sci-Fi reads and I have a few books in my TBR that would also fit that theme.

Lately my reading has been a little behind and I don't want to put too much pressure on myself. I don't have a lot of review books so I can sort of just relax and read whatever I want which will be a nice change. So because of this, I kind of want to play things by ear this month.

1.) My True Love Gave to Me by Many - Add to Goodreads
This is my book club book for December. I finished it yesterday and it honestly was not my favorite read. It's a bunch of romantic holiday short stories.

2.) The Song for Achilles by Madeline Miller - Add to Goodreads
This is because Nikki (There Were Books Involved) said it's amazing and it will wreck me. All of Nikki's recs have done that to me but they're also some favorite reads so I'm doing it.

3.) Their Fractured Light by Aime Kaufman and Meagan Spooner - Add to Goodreads
This is the final book in the Starbound trilogy which I'm such a fan of. It's one of my all-time facorite YA sci-fis. But after rereading the first two books in the series I'm terrified about what will happen to a few of the characters.

4.) The Scret Chord by Geraldine Brooks - Add to Goodreads
I think Geraldine Brooks writes really fantastic historical fiction books. This one is about King David which I'm very interested in reading.

5.) Top Ten Clues You're Clueless by Liz Czukas - Add to Goodreads
I've had a copy of this one for awhile and heard good things. It takes place during Christmas so I'm thinking this is a good time to read it.

6.) See How They Run by Ally Carter - Add to Goodreads
This is the sequel to All Fall Down which I read in January and really enjoyed. I'm excited for the sequel because the ending was such a game changer.

7.) The Wrong Side of Right by Jenn Marie Thorne Add to Goodreads
I need to read one more debut to meet my goal and I have really wanted to read this but never bought a copy. After election season (I work for a non-profit that does election work) it rekindled my desire for this book.

8.) Lock In by John Scalzi - Add to Goodreads
This was a maybe book in November but I need an audio for the month and I have this one on audio so I'm bumping it to a definite read. Plus it'll be one of the books which will help me complete the TBR pile challenge.

So those are the only books that I have planned.  There are a few other new releases that fit the theme that I may pick up if I have time or I maybe marathon a series that has been on my list for awhile. I'm also thinking about doing a secret read because I know it's a really popular book. But we shall see, it may just be these eight books. Or I may DNF some or bump some to December. I have a few potential or backup books that I may end up reading as well.

Rereads

So I have a really exciting reread planned for December. I'm joining forces with Britt at Please Feed the Bookworm to do a reread of the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman. When we heard that there was plans for there to be a TV show of the series we both decided that we needed a reread and doing it together would be fun. We've been trying to do something together for awhile now and we can finally make it happen So may I present...

Our Schedule:

The Golden Compass     Nov 30 - Dec 5
   The Subtle Knife             December 7 - 12
      The Amber Spyglass       December 14 - 19

I haven't read the series in about 7 years. I loved it then and it is one of the reasons I got back into reading things other than literary fiction after college so I'm excited to read it with . Everyone is welcome to join in our reread, We're not doing anything formal but do have some fun posts planned to celebrate. We will be doing joint reviews of each book, mood boards, crossover recommendations, and much more. So definitely come back every Monday in December for all the content (especially the 28th for my favorite post).

Potential Reads

So instead of being really structured about all the books I plan to read this month I'm thinking about following the system that Nikki at There Were Books Involved uses where there are some possible reads. So if I have time or the desire to read more books this are some that I may end up reading.

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas - Add to Goodreads
The Naturals trilogy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes - Add to Goodreads
Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness - Add to Goodreads
Menagerie by Rachel Vincent Add to Goodreads

Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marilier - Add to Goodreads
Golden Son by Pierce Brown - Add to Goodreads
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel - Add to Goodreads

There you have it. All the books I plan to read in December and a few potential reads. What are you reading in December? Are there any of the same books on your list? Have you read any of these? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

  1. His Dark Materials is going to be a TV series!?!? OMG. I'm so excited. I was so bummed when the movie wasn't received well, and they never made the other two. I really love that series.
