Netflix and Books Tag

This tag was created by Lauren at Bookmark Lit  and Erica at Novel Ink.

I was looking for a tag post to do because I have no reviews ready and no discussions brewing so of course I took to Twitter. Michelle from Pink Polka Dots Book Blog recommended this one to me and it sounded so fun. There are great questions which actually took me awhile to think about. So of course I had to do it. The general idea is that you have to come up with books that match the TV show and prompt. So here you go...

1.) It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: unlikeable character(s)

The Magicians by Lev Grossman - My Review
I think I've said this before but I love this series and I know a lot of people don't mostly because of the characters. But I understand why Quentin is so damn unlikable and I thought he had great development.

2.) Vampire Diaries: your ship sank or didn’t happen

The Falconer by Elizabeth May - My Review
This was a hard one because I rarely ship anything and if I do the ships sail. I'm very selective. But I'm saying The Falconer because I just can't with Kiaran and I liked the other guy.

3.) Friends: best cast of characters/friendships

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Steifvater - My Review
I mean obvious Blue and the Raven Boys are squad goals to the extreme. But I also love that this is a story about friendship. So many of the best moments are with the group together or with some iteration of the group having adventures and helping one another learn and grow.

4.) Gossip Girl: hate that you love or guilty pleasure

The Finishing School Series by Gail Carriger - My Review
I don't know! I don't have guilty pleasures. I read what I want and I don't really care what people say. They can judge me all they want. But the reason I picked the Finishing School series by Gail Carriger is because I think if I explained that series to people they would be both confused and judgy about it.

5.) Doctor Who: long series you loved

Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson - My Review
I realized while looking at this that I don't or haven't read many long series. I'm picking Mistborn because I love the second era aka Wax and Wayne stuff. And I'm excited for the next eras in this world. Plus I love the Cosmere.

6.) Grey’s Anatomy: all the feels

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - My Review
This is one of my favorite books of all-time. I've read it over and over again and it never effects me any less. Like every time I read it I get made at Amy for throwing Jo's manuscript into the fire and I sob uncontrollably when Beth dies. I know it's coming and I ugly cry better than Claire Danes.

7.) How I Met Your Mother: bad ending

The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry - My Review
I was really enjoying this book. I liked the world, I liked the time travel elements, I think I even liked the characters and the plot development. And then it hit the climax. Oh man, that ending was awful. Not only was it one of my triggers but I felt like it was just shock value and could have done the same thing with a different thing.

8.) Supernatural: favorite paranormal/fantasy

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova - My Review
I'm such a fan of this book. It's one of my favorites. It's about vampires and how Dracula is real. The thing is, I read this when vamipres were all the rage. But then I read it again when my enjoyment of the creatures had waned but I still loved it.

9.) Freaks and Geeks: left you wanting more

The Fixer series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes - My Review
Last month I read The Long Game, the second book in the series and it was so good! It had a great ending but an unresolved resolution. I honestly don't know if this is going to be a duology or trilogy. I think it depends on how many books are sold. So read it!

10.) The OC: series that should have ended earlier

Divergent by Veronica Roth - My Review
I just did not like the last book in this series. I don't understand why it had to suddenly take us out into the larger world, give us a different villain, and then randomly change what we thought about the why not fitting into a box is a good thing. It should have stopped at two.

11.) Girl Meets World: should have a spin-off

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas - My Review
I've said it before and I'll say it again, my kingdom for a book about Manon, the Thirteen, and the Ironteeth Witches. I love them so much and want to know so much more about them and their history, Might I suggest, Sarah if you're reading this, one about their war with the Crochan witches.

12.) That 70’s Show:  set in a different time period

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein - My Review
I'm such a fan of this book. It's so good. It's one of the reasons I got back into WWII historical fiction. Plus it's full of feels. Recently I thought the expression "fly the plane, Maddie" and I was not okay. I try not to think about it because it's so emotional.

13.) Orange is the New Black: couldn’t stop reading

Dangerous Boys by Abigail Haas - My Review
I was supposed to be buddy reading this with Michelle from Pink Polka Dots Book Blog and I started it and just couldn't stop. She told me just the other day that when she was about to start she saw that I was already finished.

14.) Parks and Recreation: made you laugh out loud

The Reckoners trilogy by Brandon Sanderson - My Review
So Pili at In Love With Handmade is reading this and the other day she was DMing me about it and it made me want to reread because I'm such a fan of it. It's a seriously hilarious series though. Like it's high-stakes action but also bad puns and awkward MCs. I love it.

15.) One Tree Hill: favorite book boyfriend

Luca Lowe in Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin - My Review
I am not the type to collect or even think about book boyfriends. I very rarely ship them and swoon around a romantic lead even less. But Luca Lowe hit me in all the right places. I really really liked him and embarrassingly like an idiot every time he was around. There was just something so charming about him to me.

16.) Breaking Bad: favorite villain

Mrs. Coulter in the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman  - My Review
Mrs. Coulter is one of those characters you just love to hate. At first she seems kind of creepy and unsettling but then as the series develops she just gets worse. Like she does these absolutely terrible things. But she's still kind of sympathetic at the same time. You get her motivation which I like.

17.) Modern Family: best family or parents

The Weasleys in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling  - Goodreads
How can you not love the Weasleys. They are the most amazing family. The parents are so amazing that they are almost cliche, the siblings are fantastic, their how is amazing. If you didn't want to be a Weasley or live at the Burrow we cannot be friends.

There you have it. That was really fun and it makes me want to marathon some of these shows on Netflix and reread some of these books. Okay, so now I need to tag some people. I don't know who to tag. Who likes tags? You? If you like tags consider yourself tagged.

What books remind you of these Netflix shows? Do you need to watch any of these? What are some fun tags floating around? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

  2. Yay you did the tag!!! It's a super hard one, but I love reading people's answers!! But Come On Cassi!! Etiquette and Espionage is not a guilty pleasure book or series. It's super cool. So until you start reading some Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars or The Selection series or Twilight, then we'll talk. Love your pick for cast of friends though. Friendship is my fave part of that series :)
