Top Ten Tuesday: My Bookish Quirks

A weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish

Why is this topic so hard. Seriously, I should want to talk all about myself. And yet I don't. What would I say? I live in Pittsburgh, I have a cat, I like to sleep. Boring! So then I thought I would talk about some of my bookish habits. But honestly I couldn't even think about enough of those. So instead I decided to share some of my bookish quirks. A lot of them I think you may know but here are some more you may not.

1.) I like spoilers.
I've done a whole discussion post about this actually when I was trying to BookTube and I think that if you're a regular reader you probably know this already. But I think it's a little strange. Most readers hate being spoiled but I kind of like it. I've been known to search them out so I can restore some of the chill to my reading.

2.) It doesn't matter to me if I like the characters or not.

I'm a plot driven reader. I can totally hate a character and still really enjoy the book. Plus as I've said before, I like unlikable characters. As long as I am engaged and want to know what happens to the character I am good. Although there have been moments where I didn't like the character so much that it ruined the book for me.

3.) I'm very rarely reading only one book.
Also this is pretty well-known about me. I've done discussion posts about my book polygamy before but I really did have a hard time thinking about what to put on this list so I'm adding this one.

4.) I never picture the characters. Like even when they describe them I don't imagine them.
I'm not a visual learner. I'm not a visual reader either, I guess. Like I know a lot of people will imagine what a character looks like and they fancast them and have this image in their head. I don't have that. I never have that. I sometimes imagine a world or an event but almost never a characters. The exception being if I saw the movie and TV show first. Or Kvothe in the Kingkiller Chronicle, him I pictured.

5.) I rarely ship the ship and usually forget all about the romance in a book when I'm done.
Also probably not a big surprise for many of my blog readers. I've said before that I'm basically romancephobic and I've done discussion posts about it. But I think the big thing here is that I forget all about romanctic moments when the book ends. Like I'll read reviews where other people talk about kissing scenes and I'll be like "was there kissing?"

6.) I never stay up late reading because I don't finish a book before bed.
Again, I've done a discussion post about this too. I get the idea that you will want to stay up until 2am finishing a book because you like it so much but like, that's not my style. Like even a book I'm loving. I just like sleep a lot and I have never been one for all-nighters. Like I have never stayed up all night doing anything.

7.) When things get suspenseful while reading, I go to my safe space. My bathtub.
Like you know how Joey on friends will throw his book in the freezer. I go and read in the bathtub. I don't know why but when things get crazy, I go read in the bathtub fully clothed without water and then I feel less stressed.

8.) I read physical books faster than e-books usually.
When I am on my Kindle or even phone it can take me much longer to read a book. This is partially because I get distracted by other apps and stuff and partially because it hurts my eyes after awhile. But I also think I need to see how many pages I have read, especially notice with long books. If it takes twenty minutes to read 1% of a book I will get discouraged and slow down more.

Alright, that's all I got. What are some of your bookish quirks? Or interesting facts about yourself. Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

  1. Aww bathtub! It does sound safe and look at that gif! <3

I'm the opposite! I read ebooks faster than physical books. I wish it was the other way around cause I love physical books :)

  4. I never really picture the characters either! Unless, like you said, I watched an adaptation first, like with Game of Thrones. I saw episode 1 first and could thus picture some people already. :)

  5. It's interesting that you read ebooks slower because for me it's the other way around! It's not that much of a difference, but enough that I notice it. I hate reading really books on my kindle thought because just like you, I think it's super frustrating that it takes ages to read even 1%.
