Waiting on Wednesday: Blood and Salt by Kim Liggett

A weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine

Title: Blood and Salt
Author: Kim Liggett
Published: September 22, 2015 by Putnam Young Readers (Penguin Random House)

Synopsis: Romeo and Juliet meets Children of the Corn in this one-of-a-kind romantic horror.

“When you fall in love, you will carve out your heart and throw it into the deepest ocean. You will be all in—blood and salt.”

These are the last words Ash Larkin hears before her mother returns to the spiritual commune she escaped long ago. But when Ash follows her to Quivira, Kansas, something sinister and ancient waits among the rustling cornstalks of this village lost to time.

Ash is plagued by memories of her ancestor, Katia, which harken back to the town’s history of unrequited love and murder, alchemy and immortality. Charming traditions soon give way to a string of gruesome deaths, and Ash feels drawn to Dane, a forbidden boy with secrets of his own.

As the community prepares for a ceremony five hundred years in the making, Ash must fight not only to save her mother, but herself—and discover the truth about Quivira before it’s too late. Before she’s all in—blood and salt.

Why I'm Waiting

Romeo and Juliet meets Children of the Corn. WHAT? I mean can you think of two more different things? Well, actually maybe not. Both have lots of death and gore, which I love. But add the mystery and horror aspects of Children of the Corn combined with the tortured romance sounds like something right up my alley. Plus the historical fantasy aspect of the book has me totally drooling! I always love the more dark and dramatic YA fantasies so I really can't wait. The few people I know who have already read this one have absolutely loved. Their feedback makes me so excited to read it.

This is not only one of my most anticipated debuts of the year but probably my most anticipated debut of the fall. I picked up a copy at BEA (and met the incredibly sweet Kim Liggett) and I really cannot wait to read it. It just looks absolutely amazing. I hope it doesn't scare the pants off me. Actually... I kind of hope it does!

What about you? What are you waiting for this Wednesday? Are you waiting for Blood and Salt with me? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

  2. Romeo and Juliet meets Children of the Corn... I just might have to check this one out. It seems like it's going to be a little creepy, so it might be a good one to read around Halloween for me. :)
