Stacking the Shelves: July Haul

A weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews

This is going to be a small by mighty book haul. I did not get very many books this month. After ALA I have been very good about not buying books or requesting them from Netgalley or Edelweiss. That of course reflects in this month's book haul. I mean I didn't really even get any audiobooks. I've been hoarding my Audible credits so I can use them for rereads this fall. But I did get some super exciting books for review. Like two of my most anticipated reads of the year.
Bought

Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica - Add to Goodreads / My Review
The only book I bough this month was an audiobook so I could cancel my audiobooks.com membership. I'm glad I did because the audio for this was really good.

For Review

The Rattled Bones by S.M. Parker - Add to Goodreads
This is a total me book. New England harbor town and a main character who is haunted by ghostly visions from a mysterious island with a tainted history. I smell an atmospheric historical mystery. I started this yesterday and I am hopeful

Bonfire by Kristen Ritter - Add to Goodreads
I love a good mystery/thriller. Interestingly this one is giving me some Veronica Mars (the movie) vibes and it is written by an actress who was in Veronica Mars.

The One That Got Away by Melissa Pimental - Add to Goodreads
I really like Jane Austen retellings but I think Persuasion might be my favorite. You don't see them very often but that's exactly what this is.

The Sky is Yours by Chandler Klang Smith - Add to Goodreads
A dystopian future with a city plagued by dragons. You heard me right, a dystopia with dragons. I love science fantasies like this and this books sounds so freaking unique. I can't wait to read it

Artemis by Andy Weir Add to Goodreads
I really loved The Martian. I would read basically anything written by Andy Weir. On top of that this book sounds like a fantastic science fiction story with a badass female protagonist I would love.

The Dire King by William Ritter - Add to Goodreads
I saved the best for last! I lost my ability to even when I opened up my copy of this book. I am a huge fan of this series and I am super anxious to find out what happens in the final installment. I'm so grateful to Algonquin for sending me an advance copy.

Those are the books that I got so far in July. What books did you get? Are you excited for any of these? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

Stacking the Shelves: June Haul

A weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews

So I would normally wait a week to do this but I think with ALA coming up (see yesterday's post) I want to do my monthly Staking the Shelves a little early. Plus technically it is the last Saturday of the month which is usually when I post this so I'm good.

Anyway, I actually did pretty good this month. I didn't go overboard in the books that I bought and I didn't get too many for review. I mean obviously ALA is going to mess that up completely but I could be a little more discerning this month because of that. Anyway, I still got some books I am super excited about.

Bought

Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab Add to Goodreads
I LOVED the first book in this series. It was amazing and dark and everything I wanted it to be and expect from a Victoria Schwab book. I'm excited for the sequel

Spectacle by Rachel Vincent - Add to Goodreads
I had this book for review but I still ended up buying the audiobook. I really liked the audio for the first book and I wanted to listen and read this one.

Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine - Add to Goodreads
I didn't actually buy this book. It was one of the Kindle First books for June and I only listed it because I wanted to talk about it and it's not really for review.

For Review

House of Ash by Hope Cook - Add to Goodreads
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I can smell a historical mystery a mile away. This one sounds really dark and interesting so I'm excited to give it a try.

The Witch Who Came in from the Cold by Many - Add to Goodreads
This was originally a serial but they are publishing it as a book and I'm excited to read it. It has some authors that I love and is a spy novel set in the Cold War era.

The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken - Add to Goodreads
I really love Alex's previous books and I am super excited to read her new middle grade. Plus it is about a boy who discovers a demon inside him which sounds so cool.

Ferocious by Paula Stokes - Add to Goodreads
I have not read the first book in this series but I have heard really good things about Paula Stokes and I feel like it's about time I read some of her books. This one totally sounds up my alley too.

Heroine Worship by Sarah Kuhn Add to Goodreads
I really liked the first book in this series so I'm excited to see where the sequel takes us. It's such a fun super hero story and I know there will be much more hijinx in the next book.

The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones - Add to Goodreads
You had me at sold your soul to the devil. Plus I'm interested in Emily Lloyd George's series about superheroes so maybe I'll read this first and then go back to that one.

Those are the books that I got so far in June. What books did you get? Are you excited for any of these? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

Stacking the Shelves: May Haul

A weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews

Well it was another month of not pretending like I'm on a book buying ban, which means another month of buying books I'm excited to read. Plus I got some really exciting books from publishers. I mean last month was even more exciting but still, some great books to share. Okay, let's stop wasting time. You're here for the books.

Bought

The Pearl Thief by Elizabeth Wein - My Review
My one preorder of the month. I really loved Code Name Verity so I was super excited to read the prequel about Julie back in Scotland. I didn't love tit as much but it was still a really good book.

Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han - Add to Goodreads
I was late to the party for this series but I got here in time for the last book in the series. I really loved the first book so I am excited to listen to the audio for this one.

The Crown's Fate by Evelyn Skye - My Review
The first book in this series was one of my favorite audiobooks of last year and maybe ever. I was super excited to listen to the next one but sadly it was a bit underwhelming.

Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson - Add to Goodreads
I bought this one because the e-book was on sale on Amazon and I really wanted to read it. It sounds like a really interesting mystery and I can't wait to read it.

The Heart Collector by Melinda Salisbury Add to Goodreads
I'm totally a fan of this series so when I heard that there was going to be an additional collection of short stories that involved the history and mythology of the series I knew I needed to get it.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh - Add to Goodreads
I have heard amazing things about this book and so I picked it up with a birthday gift card I had. I mean I loved Renee's first series so I'm sore this will be just as great.

I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest - Add to Goodreads
I have been wanting to read this book for a long time and so I also bought a copy of this with my gift card. I mean the paperback was only $7 so how could I not?

For Review

Murder, Magic, and What We Wore by Kelly Jones - Add to Goodreads
Just seeing that title probably you know why I want to read this book. Murder and magic. But this is a historical fantasy set in Victorian England which is totally my favorite thing.

Odd & True by Cat Winters - Add to Goodreads
I need to read more Cat Winters. I've loved the books from her I have read ands she has some I'm sure I would love but I haven't read that many. I picked this one up on Netgalley and I am super excited.

As You Wish by Chelsea Sedoti - Add to Goodreads
I picked this up because it's about a town in the desert where everyone gets one wish that comes true and then bad things happens. The main character wants to change that.

Nyxia by Scott Reintgen - Add to Goodreads
I'm a big fan of science fiction, especially ones that sound like space operas and that's exactly what this one sounds like. Plus I think there may be some drama.

The Suffering Tree by Elle Cosimano Add to Goodreads
This book sounds totally amazing. It sounds like a really cool historical mystery which is totally up my alley. I'm a part of the blog tour for this next month and I'm excited.

The League of American Traitors by Matthew Landis - Add to Goodreads
There has never been a more me book. I mean it's historical mystery that is pitched as Hamilton meets National Treasure. I can't wait to read it!

Those are the books that I got in May. What books did you get? Are you excited for any of these? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

Stacking the Shelves: April Haul

A weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews

Let's stop pretending like I'm on a book buying ban, shall we. I mean not to say I wasn't good this month and that I bought a ton of books, no that was last month. But I just think pretending I'm on a ban is silly because I'm not really (more on this next week). But I did get some exciting books this month both from purchase and from publishers. So here you go, all the books I got.

Bought

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli - My Review
My one preorder of the month. I really loved Becky's debut, Simon Vs, so I was excited for her second book. I was a little nervous because it sounded more heavy on the romance but Becky did not disappoint.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor - Add to Goodreads
And so begins my audiobook purchase binge of the month. I picked this one up because not only did it sound amazing but the audio is narrated by Steve West who is the dreamiest.

Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick - My Review
Audible was having a 50% off the entire website sale and I needed a little retail therapy so I spent some money. I picked this one up because I've been really enjoying celebrity memoires lately and I very much enjoy Anna Kendrick.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander (really J.K. Rowling)Add to Goodreads
They recently released this on audio because of the movie with Eddie Redmayne narrating it. I was super interested and then the sale knocked the price down to a can't miss price.

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab - My Review
I have a few rereads that I am trying to do this summer and fall to prepare for new releases and this is one of them. I wanted to buy one reread for the Audible sale and I picked this one.

For Review

Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee - Add to Goodreads
Let's start with the exciting ones and not beat around the book. I received a copy of this one through the publisher and I don't really know how. I wish I did so I could repeat the process. I think because the author asked who wanted to be put on the list and I jumped on that so fast.

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco - Add to Goodreads
I may have gone a bit overboard here and emailed both the main publicity email address and also the publicist listed on the author's website. But it worked and I am insanely happy that it did. This book is so pretty and I can't wait to read it.

Sleeper by Mackenzie Cadhenhead - Add to Goodreads
I picked this up because it's pitched as Heathers meets Inception. But either way, it sounds like a really interesting science fiction book.

Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica Add to Goodreads
I am a very big fan of Mary Kubica. I have read and enjoyed all of her books. She knows how to do a great mystery. That's really all I need to want a book but this one says it's her "most chilling thriller to date." Which is like so exciting!

The Hanging Girl by Eileen Cook - Add to Goodreads
I really enjoyed With Malice which was my first Eileen Cook book. When I saw she had a new one coming out I snagged it. Plus this is about a fake psychic who gets asked by police to help solve a mystery she has details on. How freaking amazing does that sound?

The Night Ocean by Paul La Forge Add to Goodreads
A few days ago I mentioned I can smell a historical mystery a mile away and I smell one here. Plus I love these kinds of books when they involve authors or artists, and this one the author is Lovecraft. Yup, this sounds great.

Strangers in Budapest by Jessica Keener - Add to Goodreads
I think this is straight up historical fiction but it sounds pretty interesting and like it's part coming of age story and maybe part mystery. We'll see. It sounds good though.

Those are the books that I got in April. What books did you get? Are you excited for any of these? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!

Stacking the Shelves: March Haul

A weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews

Ummm, remember when I said I was on a book buying ban? Well so I bought some books this month, and got a good amount for review. I am really excited by a lot of these, especially some of the ones I bought. But I shouldn't feel too bad because I also sold a ton of books. I was culling my sehelves and took two bags of books to Half Price Books and then got some new ones to replace them so it's an even trade, right? Seriously, grab a cup of something and maybe a snack because this is going to take awhile. I really need to go back to doing these monthly. Alright, let's look at what I picked up...

Bought

The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon - My Review
I already had an e-ARC of this book but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a signed special edition with the cover that matches the old design.

The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux - Add to Goodreads
I had this exact copy of The Phantom of the Opera when I was in college. I loved the B&N classics with the gold edges. Anyway, I read this on a plane and left it in the the pouch in front of my seat so I had to buy it.

First and Then by Emma Mills - Add to Goodreads
I have heard good things about this book. Emma Mills came to Pittsburgh on a book tour and I was going to buy the book but didn't, I was trying to be on a book buying ban. But when I saw it at HPB I had to get it.

Only the Good Spy Young, Out of Sight, Out of Time, and United We Spy by Ally CarterMy Review
When I was at Half Price Books I saw that they had the hardcovers for the last three books in the Gallagher Girls series. I loved the first three books and I haven't finished the series yet because I don't own the books, but I do now.

Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness - Add to Goodreads
I also saw the thirdd book in the Chaos Walking trilogy at Half Price Books as well. I only own the first book and even though I haven't read it, I want to so I picked this up.

Frost Like Night by Sara Raasch - Add to Goodreads
I have not finished this series yet because I never picked up the last book in the series. I'm interested to see how it ends. I've heard really good things about this one too.

For Review

Geekerella by Ashley Poston - Add to Goodreads
I got this on Netgalley (thanks Quirk Books) at the very beginning of the month. I should have probably read it as part of my contemporary month but I didn't. Oh well. I've heard good things.

#Antisocial by Jillian Blake - Add to Goodreads
This totally sounds like an interesting YA mystery ad thriller. It got me with the Pretty Little Liars meets Wikileaks tagline.

The Love Interest by Cale Deitrich - Add to Goodreads
I am really excited about this debut. It sounds like an interesting YA mystery and thriller as well. I mean it's about teenage spies afterall.

The Most Beautiful Woman in Florence by Claudia GrayAdd to Goodreads
This book totally sounds like the kind of historical fiction that I will love. Plus it takes place in Florence which I am super excited about.

Cold Summer by Gwen Cole - Add to Goodreads
I picked this book up from Edelweiss because I saw that it was read now and it is a total me book. It's a historical fantasy with time travel that takes the person back to WWII. Sign me up!

The Hush by Skye Melki-Wegner Add to Goodreads
In the course of looking for Cold Summer on Edelweiss I also saw this book and it sounds really fantastic. It's got a This Savage Song and The Kingkiller Chronicles thing going on with music and magic thing.

Ash and Quill by Rachel Caine - Add to Goodreads
I flailed so hard when the publisher sent me a copy of this book after emailing them about it. I am super super excited for the next book in this series! And I just found out there are two more so double yay!

Retribution Rails by Erin Bowman - Add to Goodreads
I loved Vengeance Road so much and I was ecstatic to have my wish for this book granted on Netgalley. This book is so pretty and it sounds amazing! More YA Westerns!

Those are the books that I got in March. I obviously bought more books than I usually do but what can you do. What books did you get? Are you excited for any of these? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY READING!
